The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is near the Brandenburg Gate, in the center of Berlin. It’s made up of rectangular concrete columns of varying height set on undulating ground. I tried to take a photo to show what’s it like walking through them.
There’s a little cave off the main (only) road that runs through Vernazza. If you walk through it, you end up on this rugged little beach. After a bit of research, I discovered that this beach didn’t exist until 2011 when the landslides the devastated the region created it. This beach was the only sign I could see that the landslides had occurred at all.
I was struggling to figure out where to go on vacation after a weekend in London when I saw a photo of this little island town called Burano, near Venice. I decided I had to go there to see it for myself. So, I booked a trip to Venice, once there I had to figure out how to get there. The journey is faaaaaar longer than Google had informed me. I’ll tell you more about it in another post.
On my way back from Vietnam in 2014 I had to travel through Hong Kong. I had about 12 hours between flights there so I decided to do a bit of sight seeing. The Big Buddha was pretty nearby so once I figured out Hong Kong’s confusing three different colored taxi systems I made my way there. I then pretty much forgot I’d taken these pictures and haven’t done anything with them until this weekend. Here’s the first, the Big Buddha in silhouette. If you want to get a sense of size, zoom and you’ll see tiny people just below him.
I think every staircase, and there are many of them, in the Chinese emperors’ Forbidden Purple City in the heart of Hue, Vietnam is flanked by dragon’s like this one. In fact, if you look into the background of this picture, and squint a bit, you’ll see four more examples in the building across the way.
