I’ve mentioned before that when we visited Ha Long Bay we actually stayed on Cat Ba island and explored the surrounding area by kayak. There was all sorts of activity on the water from small fishing boats to floating villages.

I think I actually took this photo from the tour boat that transported us to the island, but I’m not sure.

This picture is a little blurry but I like it anyway. On my second day in Vietnam we went on a boat tour of the Mekong Delta. We had to get up early so we could make it in time to see the floating markets in action. Despite out early departure the river was already buzzing with activity. We weren’t far into our journey when we came across this man checking his fishing nets.

big buddha in hong kong silhouetted against partly cloudy blue sky with trees in foregroundOn my way back from Vietnam in 2014 I had to travel through Hong Kong. I had about 12 hours between flights there so I decided to do a bit of sight seeing. The Big Buddha was pretty nearby so once I figured out Hong Kong’s confusing three different colored taxi systems I made my way there. I then pretty much forgot I’d taken these pictures and haven’t done anything with them until this weekend. Here’s the first, the Big Buddha in silhouette. If you want to get a sense of size, zoom and you’ll see tiny people just below him.

I think every staircase, and there are many of them, in the Chinese emperors’ Forbidden Purple City in the heart of Hue, Vietnam is flanked by dragon’s like this one. In fact, if you look into the background of this picture, and squint a bit, you’ll see four more examples in the building across the way.

This impressive archway leads the way to Tu Duc’s tomb just outside of Hue Vietnam. His mausoleum is actually more like a large park. There’s a number of similar mausoleums dotted about the countryside in this area.
